MIAMI — Hicks, Muse is creating a new sports Web site, PSNSports.com, expected to launch this summer.
The investment firm just launched its 24-hour Latino sports channel Pan-American Sports Network (PSN) on Feb. 15. Available in Spanish and Portuguese, PSN bowed in an initial 7 million cable and satellite homes.
“This is a direct extension — completely linked and integrated with the PSN cable channel,” exec VP and chief operating officer Jefferson Slack told Daily Variety.
Launch of the site will coincide with that of a PSN signal for the United States. Site’s content will be in English, Spanish and Portuguese, with features like chat, e-mail, e-commerce, bios and stats. PSNSports.com will have international, regional and locally produced content.
The site and the channel are part of Hicks, Muse’s portfolio of sports properties, which are managed by its partner, Gotham-based Muller Sports Group.
The site will emphasize soccer, using club sites as its foundation, for which Hicks, Muse can leverage its other holdings, such as rights to Brazil’s Sport Club Corinthians Paulist, a wildly popular team.
“It’s analogous to having the Yankees Web site,” Slack said. Country-specific sports portals featuring official club sites will be launched in phases and will feed traffic into a regional portal, Hicks, Muse said.
