Globo plan helps poor

Media conglom Globo’s Web portal Globo.com and state-controlled bank Caixa Economica Federal announced that they will finance the sale of 1 million PCs in Brazil in an attempt to get low-income consumers online.

Each PC will sell for 1,600 reais ($890), which can be paid in 24 monthly installments. Buyers will be given free Internet access, e-mail and help lines for 24 months from Globo.com and will be eligible for free computer-skills training.

Brazil is Latin America’s single largest Internet market.
