Flip Your Lid goes for Ridley’s ‘Darkness’

Cyberbiz Brief

Animation studio Flip Your Lid has inked a deal to animate “Those Who Walk in Darkness,” a serialized 90-minute Web feature written by John Ridley (“Three Kings,” “Third Watch”) and produced by UrbanEntertainment.com.

Based on Ridley’s sci-fi novel, the story centers on a female rookie cop who joins an elite squad that hunts mutants. “Darkness” bows this December and will be shown in 26 biweekly installments lasting three to four minutes each.

Deal marks the second Ridley-penned project animated by Flip and available at UrbanEntertainment.com. The first was “Undercover Brother,” which was acquired by Universal to be developed into a feature film.

“We have a great relationship with John and the creative team at Flip, and I’ve been looking for a way to continue the creative collaboration with the same team that brought success to ‘Undercover Brother,’ ” said Urban Entertainment’s CEO and prexy Michael Jenkinson. “We’re looking for Flip to lead us into a new style of animation that hasn’t been seen before on the Web.”
