Community site FilmStew.com, which will launch during the Cannes Film Festival, has tapped a trio of Hollywood vets to act as execs and advisers for the company.
Neil Blatt, previously the head of distribution and exhibition for Miramax Films and the American and Canadian operations of Cineplex Odeon, will serve as exec veep of FilmStew.com. Co-founder Warren Zide, producer of “Final Destination” and “American Pie,” and Juan Morales, editor-in-chief of Detour magazine, will serve as directors of the company.
FilmStew.com aims to create a business-to-business portal with information about the process of developing, financing and producing films and television programs.
“This is a multidisciplinary industry,” said chairman John Culton, a real estate developer. “We have to accommodate film and television professionals in every area from writing and directing to production, performing and finance. So we’re putting a team together that’s been successful in specific disciplines, and Neil’s credentials are exceptional.”
Prexy of the company is Sperling Reich, the producer of About.com’s movie section and a contributing columnist for the Hollywood Stock Exchange.
“Our challenge is to create a world-class site that serves worldwide needs, and we’re doing that through content,” Reich said. “But getting from a great site to one that people depend on and return to is a bigger task, and we think Neil’s contribution will be invaluable.”
