NEW YORK — Showtime Networks has tapped Gene Falk senior VP of newly created division Showtime Digital Media Group.
As head of the new arm, Falk will oversee all new-media ventures — including development and marketing of Web content, subscription video-on-demand, broadband and new digital channels — new business opportunities, and business development and long-term strategy.
Showtime has been one of the more active cablers online, with original show “Whirl Girl” as one of its more successful and heavily promoted Web ventures.
“What this division is about is acknowledging how new technology is going to change the way consumers use television and the potential change even of some of the content they see,” Falk told Daily Variety. “This new group that I’ll be heading up will be charged with looking at those issues and at how Showtime will adapt in that new environment.”
Falk will report to Showtime Networks exec VP of corporate strategy and communications Mark Greenberg at the company’s New York headquarters.
Most recently, Falk was senior VP and general manager of Showtime Networks’ direct-to-home business. Before that, he was VP of sales and affiliate marketing for Showtime Event Television.
Previously, he held positions at HBO and Doyle, Dane & Bernbach.
