Excite@Home, the nation’s largest broadband service provider, has pulled even further ahead of the competish, including Road Runner, announcing Wednesday that it has topped 2 million subscribers.
Although the statistic shows significant customer growth for the company, which has added 1 million subscribers in the past eight months, Excite still hasn’t topped the numbers from the larger dial-up ISPs. Customers can subscribe to Excite only where AT&T, Cox and Comcast cable are available.
Currently, Microsoft’s Internet service, MSN, has 3 million subscribers and Earthlink has 3.5 million subscribers. America Online, the world’s largest ISP, has nearly 25 million subscribers. Excite said that it expects to add 1 million subscribers by year’s end.
