Online ads, 24.1% wage increase included in deal

The national board of the Directors Guild of America has approved a four-year contract with commercials producers and referred the pact to the union’s 12,000 members for a ratification vote.

Negotiators reached a tentative agreement in late October with the Assn. of Independent Commercial Producers a few days before the Oct. 31 expiration of the previous contract. The deal includes coverage, for the first time, of ads made for the Internet .

The agreement also provides a 24.1% wage increase over the life of the contract along with improvements in creative rights and health and safety protections. Ratification voting is set to be completed by late January.

Negotiations on the contract began in July with more than 10 sessions needed to reach a deal. The DGA’s negotiating committee included commercial directors Stu Hagmann and Neil Tardio and DGA members Lee Blaine, Steve Glanzrock, Bob Karwoski, John Lowe, Vince Misiano, Ron Rapiel, Al Smith and David Welsch.
