BERLIN — German production group Das Werk and L.A.-based Detour Magazine are launching a joint online film mag — Detour Europe — in July.
The two companies will be equal partners in the venture, which will be specifically aimed at the European market.
Detour will deliver editorial content, while Das Werk will lay out the online site, which will use moving images and trailers from current feature films as well as background information and interviews.
Das Werk officials said Detour, which already has a number of online publications, could prove a valuable partner: Detour Online will provide possibilities for synergy with Das Werk subsidiaries like film and Internet outfit 702 Media and Traumwerk Mediaproduction, both of which plan to use the Internet to market movies. Company execs emphasized the growing significance of the Internet business, where the value of moving images is growing rapidly.
Das Werk was founded in 1999 after the merger of visual-effects outfit Das Werk Group and Wim Wenders’ Berlin-based production company Road Movies.
