LONDON — BSkyB and TiVo have unveiled their marketing plan for TiVo’s tapeless video recorders, set to hit U.K. shops this weekend.
Although BSkyB and TiVo are partnered in the British market, the technology is not specific to the satcaster’s SkyDigital platform.
The companies said boxes will retail for £399 ($582) and subscriptions will cost $14.60 a month or a one-off charge of $290. BSkyB and TiVo will split subscription revenues and the income from other broadcasters using the service.
Depending on first-month demand, up to 20,000 boxes may be shipped before Christmas. The last official figure for TiVo subs in the U.S. was 52,000 at the end of June.
