ASCAP and Launch Media’s Online Music Group, a network of 25 music-related Web sites, have linked to share content, ad sales and eventually Webcast performances by ASCAP members.
ASCAP will make select pages on its existing site available for banner ads that will be sold by the Launch staff. On the editorial side, ASCAP and Launch.com sites will share news and links before moving into musical Webcasts.
“We’ll also be driving traffic to our site by placing our own banner ads on other sites in the Launch network,” ASCAP senior VP of marketing Phil Crosland told Daily Variety.
Along with joining this network of sites, ASCAP has granted a comprehensive performing rights license for streaming music content on Launch.com. Crosland characterized this move not as a preemptive strike against possible Internet piracy, but as “an opportunity for ASCAP members to expand their revenues in a secure environment.”
