Streaming-media technology from Internet broadcaster iBeam Broadcasting Corp. will be made available to users of America Online Inc. as part of an agreement announced Wednesday.
“When our members go to a site that contains streaming media, their experience will be enhanced, quicker and easier because we will be able to provide access (through iBeam,)” AOL spokeswoman Wendy Goldberg said. “iBeam will deploy some of its network within our network.”
Sunnyvale-based iBeam delivers live audio and video events online via a hybrid satellite and fiber network. Execs declined to comment, saying they are in a quiet period prior to the company’s initial public offering, and Goldberg declined to release terms of the agreement.
Other content providers using iBeam technology include AtomFilms, IFilm, Launch and Atomicpop.com.
