BSkyB will start selling Europe’s first personal TV recorders in the U.K. next year, which will combine a digital satellite decoder with a hard disk for recording.
Satcaster’s set-top box will allow for the digital storage of up to 40 hours of programming. It will include two tuners so that one channel can be watched live while another is recorded. Unlike the free set-top decoders BSkyB is currently offering, the personal TV recorder will be an unsubsidized premium product.
Later this year BSkyB will also launch TiVo recorders in Britain.
