Longtime music industry journalist joins staff

Longtime music industry journalist Don Waller has been tapped music reporter for Daily Variety and will be based in Los Angeles.

Waller spent 14 years at the music industry publication Radio & Records, the last seven as senior editor. He has written extensively on the music scene for many local and national publications, including the Los Angeles Times, USA Today and Billboard.

He is also the author of the historical tome “The Motown Story,” and has contributed to the L.A. punk rock history “Make the Music Go Bang!” and “The Rolling Stone History of the Beats.” A platinum award-winning songwriter, Waller also has penned liner notes for dozens of CD releases and box sets, and is a voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences, BMI and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Executive editor Steven Gaydos said, “Waller’s passion for music, experience on business publications and historical understanding of so many different genres of music make him an essential component of Daily Variety’s increasing commitment to coverage of the music industry.”
