Gaul company introduces TV e-mail

PARIS — The French digital platform Television Par Satellite (TPS) saw revenues climb to $280 million in 1999, up 63% on the previous year.

Managing director Jacques Espinasse predicted Wednesday that the figure would grow to some $378 million for 2000.

Espinasse was speaking at the Paris launch of TPS’ TV e-mail service, the first of its kind in France, by which subscribers can send electronic mail messages via their television sets.

Later on this year, TPS, which has introduced 120 interactive services in the past three years, plans to launch a TV betting service in time for the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in mid-September.

TPS has some 880,000 subscribers, while bigger rival CanalSatellite has about 1.5 million.
