Sundance Channel’s international division has shifted its operations base to Gotham from London, the company announced Tuesday.
Paola Freccero, who was recently promoted to VP, international, will assume all of the international development responsibilities for Sundance Channel. Previously, London-based Tony Watts had headed up the division under the auspices of Polygram Filmed Entertainment prior to PFE’s acquisition by Seagram. Watts has left the company to pursue other interests.
Prior to joining Sundance Channel as a publicity consultant in 1999, Freccero was a consultant for such companies as Fine Line Features and Bumble Ward & Associates. Previously, she was artistic director of the Nortel Palm Springs Intl. Film Festival. She has also held public relations stints the Samuel Goldwyn Co., Turner Broadcasting and Clein + White.
“The primary mission of the international division of Sundance Channel is to build localized channels that carry the Sundance name and follow through on its mission of introducing new filmmakers,” Freccero said.
In Latin America, Sundance is available in 18 countries, including Mexico, Argentina, Venezuela, Columbia and Chile through a licensing agreement with Latin American Pay Television, a joint venture of Fox, Paramount, Warner Bros. and MGM.
As a result of a licensing agreement between Sundance Channel and South Pacific Pictures in partnership with Rialto Films, Sundance Channel New Zealand launched as a full channel in August.
Sundance Channel, which launched in the U.S. in 1996, is a joint venture between Robert Redford, Showtime Networks and Universal Studios.
