AFTRA scheduled to resume talks on Monday
Announcers and engineers at Westwood One’s satellite radio network in Valencia, Calif., have voted 41-5 to authorize a strike and filed federal complaints alleging failure to bargain in good faith.
The American Federation of Television & Radio Artists is scheduled to resume negotiations Monday but did not disclose a strike date. The announcers have been without a contract since August 1999, and the engineers voted AFTRA as their rep last May.
AFTRA has filed charges with the National Labor Relations Board alleging that Westwood One has intentionally delayed negotiations. The union noted that its last broadcast strike in Los Angeles took place in the early 1970s at KFWB-AM.
Westwood One reps were not available to comment.
