STOCKHOLM — SF Bio, the exhibition arm of Sweden’s powerful Bonnier Group, inked a deal Friday to build a 14-screen, 3,000-seat multiplex in Kista on the northern outskirts of Stockholm.
The multiplex, to be called Filmstaden Kista, will also be the first in Scandinavia to use digital projection.
Known as the Silicon Valley of Scandinavia, “Kista is a rapidly growing area with high consumer spending forecasts, but also an area in which right now there are virtually no cinemas,” Jan Bernhardsson, president and CEO of SF Bio, told Daily Variety.
Site, set to open in October 2002, will be part of an expanded shopping and entertainment complex co-developed in partnership with Swedish insurance conglom and land developer Lansforsakringars Livbolag.
The inclusion of a multimedia high-tech games center is also expected to drive new and young auds to the site.
