Sharon Kahn, a publicist with extensive experience handling indie films and classical music, has been named senior VP of publicity and promotions at Fox Searchlight.
In her newly created post, Kahn will report to Searchlight president of marketing Nancy Utley.
In 1993, Kahn co-founded New York-based Kahn & Jacobs Public Relations with partner Susan Jacobs. Clients included writer-directors Paul Schrader and Melvin Van Peebles as well as HBO, Lions Gate, USA Films, Samuel Goldwyn Films, New Yorker Films, the Shooting Gallery, the Independent Film Project and the New York Film Critics Circle.
The duo also handled top classical musicians such as James Galway and the Eroica Trio, as well as labels Sony Classical Records, BMG and Angel/EMI Records. Kahn & Jacobs closed shop last November. Kahn is relocating from New York to take her new position.
Prior to running her own company, Kahn was a freelance publicist and an associate editor for MGM Grand Airline’s in-flight magazine.
She has also worked in New York state politics, handling public affairs for consumer advocacy and environmental organizations.
