SAG must ratify ad pact by Friday

Oct. 22 agreement seeing little opposition

The deadline for receipt of ratification votes on a new three-year commercials contract for union actors is 5 p.m. Friday.

About 125,000 ballots were mailed out three weeks ago to members of the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television & Radio Artists on the tentative agreement reached on Oct. 22. The joint SAG/AFTRA board approved the deal six days later and issued a back-to-work order, allowing members to return to ad shoots for the first time in six months.

Ballots must be sent in by mail in order to be counted.

The deal has evoked only scattered opposition within SAG and AFTRA. Key components give the unions large hikes in cable payments, jurisdiction over made-for-Internet ads, a six-month study of possible monitoring systems and retention of pay-per-play residuals for network TV.
