WASHINGTON — The National Assn. of Broadcasters pushed NBC one step closer toward the door Tuesday when the broadcast station trade org refused to support an increase in the number of stations a company may own.
NBC has stated that the NAB’s support of the current 35% national audience cap is in direct conflict with the networks’ wish to see it lifted. But the station groups that dominate the NAB’s board don’t like the idea of networks gaining even more power than they have now.
Fox has already left the trade org over the issue, and NBC has said that it will leave if the NAB does not support greater deregulation.
