Murdoch kicks ball to CLT/Ufa

Price reported to be $104 million per season

BERLIN — Global mogul Rupert Murdoch has reached an agreement to sell the rights to Champion’s League soccer to European heavyweight CLT/Ufa, the Sueddeutsche Zeitung paper reported Friday.

Within months of the original purchase, the combined rights have been sold back to their previous broadcaster, the CLT/Ufa-backed channel RTL, with pay rights going to Premiere World, in which CLT holds a 5% stake. The combined price was reportedly $104 million per season.

Herbert Kloiber, Murdoch’s junior partner in TM3, the channel for which the rights were acquired, has said he will try to block the sale of the next three seasons, which run through 2003.
