NEW YORK — Miramax has named former HAL Films development chief Allon Reich head of its newly restored London office, the company announced Monday.
Appointment has been expected since Miramax dissolved its partnership with HAL and retained its slate early last month (Daily Variety, Feb. 1).
Reporting to Miramax co-prexy of production Meryl Poster, Reich will oversee development and production along with Miramax exec VP of production and development Julie Goldstein.
“Allon has made important contributions to our recent U.K. productions, and I look forward to the new projects and ideas that he will bring as part of Miramax’s continued commitment to British filmmaking,” Miramax co-topper Harvey Weinstein said.
While at HAL, Allon worked on such projects as Patricia Rozema’s “Mansfield Park” and Jez Butterworth’s “Birthday Girl.” Before joining HAL as head of film in 1997, Reich was deputy commissioning editor for Film on Four at London-based Channel Four Films.
