Miramax pinkslips seven

Layoffs due to evaluation of efficiency

Miramax confirmed Monday that seven marketing department staffers have been pinkslipped.

Among those cut were creative ad department head John Fahy and longtime marketing department editor Chip Farnham, as well as some assistants.

There are still as many as 50 staffers in the mini-major’s marketing department. Under marketing president Dennis Rice, who has held that position for over a year, the amount of creative ad work outsourced to ad venders has not increased markedly.

A source close to the situation said the cuts were “not an unusual shift in staff,” but “represented an evaluation of how efficiently the creative marketing has been happening, and a move by the department head to strike a balance between internal and external resources.”
