In a move designed to bring a large group of Canuck talent agencies into a larger Hollywood confederation, Metropolitan Talent Agency has opened an office in Toronto.
Canadian agent Paul Nicholls will oversee the careers of select clients from all over that country and also meet with agencies that may not have as much L.A. exposure as their clients need. Metropolitan hopes the idea will spawn more volume for all parties.
“We’d like to think of the new office like a satellite of us,” explained Metropolitan prexy Chris Barrett. “We’re forming relationships with a handful of Canadian agents who will jointly represent clients. We will keep them integral in the relationship.”
Barrett added that Metro was already “in the process of putting together deals with several outfits,” and that about 20% of the agency’s thesp list is already Canadian. Examples are Chris Martin, who stars in syndie show “Peter Benchley’s Amazon” with fellow Metro client and early supermodel Carol Alt. Martin also has landed a recurring role on WB’s “Felicity.”
