COLOGNE — Citing those ubiquitous terms that have been fueling nearly every major discussion at this year’s Medienforum NRW, Media Luna Intl. Sales has joined forces with fellow local players D&D Film, MMC Independent, Prime Prods. and Zieglerfilm in order to beef up operations in the face of market globalization.
“We are starting a company for the future,” says Ida Martins, head of Media Luna Intl. Sales and managing director of the new joint entity, Media Luna Entertainment.
Joint selling effort
While Martins said her partners will all continue to work independently, they will sell jointly. In addition to her own company’s film and docu catalog — which includes pics like Ricardo Larrain’s “Enthusiasm” and Akira Ogata’s “Boys’ Choir” — Martins will be peddling TV formats from Prime and D&D as well as features from MMC and Ziegler.
The company’s four main building blocks will be TV movies and docus, formats and comedy shows, bigscreen projects and, eventually, a film and TV development division with a strong international focus.
Looking for a staff with international know-how, Media Luna has tapped Andrew Chang, a New York-based buyer who will represent the group in Asia, and is in the process of recruiting another experienced hand out of Los Angeles to oversee its TV formats division.
