Shaffel & Sakow to plan event
Sunset Strip billboards, already among the most recognized advertising spaces in the world, are set to gain prominence as the subject of a media-entertainment industry awards show.
The City of West Hollywood, through its Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau, has scheduled a July 13 event at the Hyatt West Hollywood to honor the best billboards on the Strip. It has hired entertainment planning firm Shaffel & Sakow to execute the details.
“The Sunset Strip billboards are famous all over the world,” said firm principal Pamela Wilkie Sakow. “The concept of the show will be to honor and recognize the agencies who do all the billboards.”
Sakow said the city plans to make the kudofest, dubbed the West Hollywood Sunset Strip Billboard Awards, into an annual event.
Brad Burlingame, president of the Convention and Visitors Bureau, noted that the billboards are among the most expensive in the world to rent and generate a high level of prestige among ad agencies.
