King extends book pact

Simon & Schuster sign 3-title deal with author

NEW YORK — Publisher Simon & Schuster and novelist Stephen King have inked an extension of their co-publishing contract, involving three new titles to be published on a profit-sharing basis.

Since the initial 1997 deal, which engaged King for three books (“Bag of Bones,” “Hearts in Atlantis” and the nonfiction “On Writing”), Simon & Schuster has published five additional King titles under separate agreements, including the first bound version of “The Green Mile.”

“We’re delighted that the relationship between Stephen King and Simon & Schuster has grown and expanded well beyond the scope of our original contract,” said Simon & Schuster prexy and chief operating officer Jack Romanos.

King’s forthcoming “From a Buick Eight” will be the first published under the new contract.
