Fox Television Studios, an independent TV studio within News Corp., announced that Edward Sabin has joined the company as VP, business and legal affairs.

Sabin, who reports to Rich Vokulich, exec VP of Fox Television Studios, is responsible for business and legal activities relating to the company’s primetime television, original movies for television, nonfiction and alternative cable production units. Prior to joining Fox, Sabin was a partner at law firm Greenberg, Glusker, Fields, Claman & Machtinger.

Gary Kurtz has been upped to exec veep of UnapixProds. in Culver City. Kurtz will be responsible for the development, production and sale of a broad range of programming. Prior to joining Unapix, Kurtz served as VP, development, at Tri-Crown Prods.

IN Demand has tapped Stephen Earley as VP of promotions marketing.

Earley will be responsible for developing iN Demand’s brand awareness and marketing. By working with national and regional promotional partners including retailers, program suppliers and studios, Earley will promote the network’s program offerings and help increase its revenue efforts.

Jan Cox has been tapped as VP of business development at Quickband Networks. In her new role, Cox will oversee the licensing, development and distribution of short-form entertainment across digital and traditional channels and manage day-to-day operations of the company.

Prior to signing with Quickband , Cox served as director of the animation division for Palm Pictures.

Fox Sports Net has named Scott Ackerson exec producer, Fox Sports News. Ackerson also serves as coordinating studio producer for the Fox Saturday Baseball Game of the Week studio segments and oversaw all NHL on Fox studio segments from 1995 to 1999.

Ackerson’s television roots are in sports news production beginning with his first job at WOUB Radio/TV, Athens, Ohio, in 1982.

Lifetime has tapped Jan Hatcher senior VP, distribution. Based in the Los Angeles office, Hatcher will be responsible for distribution of both Lifetime Television and Lifetime Movie Network. Hatcher was most recently senior VP of affiliate sales and marketing for the Scripps Networks, Home and Garden Television, (HGTV) and Do-It-Yourself (DIY).

Disney/ABC Cable Networks named Scott Garner director of research. Garner will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of programming research for Disney Channel, Toon Disney, SoapNet and any future networks launched by Disney/ABC Cable Networks.

Previously Garner was director of research for Cartoon Network.

Suzan Jenkins has been named senior VP of marketing for the RIAA, reporting to prexy-CEO Hilary Rosen.

Jenkins will be coordinating a new series of industrywide campaigns that showcase the quality and value of recorded music. She also will be responsible for the RIAA’s gold, platinum and diamond awards program as well as the Premios De Oro y Platino awards that celebrate Latin music sales.

Most recently exec director of the Smithsonian Institution’s America’s Jazz Heritage program, Jenkins previously spent seven years as exec director for the Rhythm and Blues Foundation.

Scott Ackerson has been tapped as exec producer of Fox Sports News.

In his new post, Ackerson will coordinate the anchors and reporters at Fox Sports News and help prepare for the June premiere of Fox Sports Net’s regional news programs.

Previously a producer at Fox NFL Sunday, Ackerson began his career with Fox Sports in 1994 as the coordinating producer of the Fox NFL Sunday pregame show. He also was the coordinating producer of ESPN’s SportsCenter.

Judy Milestone has been promoted to senior VP of network bookings at CNN.

Milestone will be responsible for guest and content selection for all live interviews on CNN, CNN International and CNN Interactive. She will also serve as a liaison with the Gallup organization for CNN.

Most recently VP of network bookings for CNN, Milestone joined the department in 1984 as director of research.

Internetstudios.com, a Web-based sales and acquisitions film and TV resource site, has tapped Dean Shapiro as VP of sales and marketing.

In the newly created position, Shapiro is responsible for attracting sales companies to present their projects on the site and enlisting buyers to use the OnlineFilmSales.com database for acquisitions, as well as developing advertising and marketing strategies for the company.

Previously, Shapiro oversaw his own consulting firm, The Dean Shapiro Co., which specialized in the international sales, acquisitions and marketing of motion pictures.

Dan Hahn has been upped to director of iwin.com, East Coast Sales, where he will be responsible for developing the site’s East Coast advertising and promotion sales in categories including packaged goods, communications and entertainment.

Before joining iwin.com, Hahn was VP, group supervisor at The Media Edge, where he handled more than $175 million in national broadcast buying annually.

Beyond Music has tapped Barbara Bolan as veep of marketing. Formerly VP of marketing at Virgin Records, Bolan will now focus her marketing efforts on developing cross-marketing partnerships as well as coordinating with the press, radio, new media and sales department on marketing strategies.

Bob Hastings has been tapped general sales manager for 790 KABC and KDIS AM 710. Previously, Hastings was general sales manager of KIEV 870AM.

Denise E. Palmer has been tapped as prexy and CEO of CLTV NEWS, Chicago. Previously VP, development, strategy and finance for Chicago Tribune, Palmer will continue to use her expertise in financial, strategy and general management positions, in addition to her belief in the future of multimedia journalism to lead CLTV’s continuous growth.

Harriet Reisman has been tapped senior veep, general counsel and corporate secretary of Nelvana Limited. Reisman’s extensive background as a senior exec in corporate, finance and entertainment law includes more than 16 years of legal, government and related industry experience.

Peter Levinsohn has been upped to exec VP, worldwide pay TV and Pay-Per-View for 20th Century Fox. Levinsohn, who has been senior VP International Pay Television and Pay-Per-View since 1997, will now be responsible for the distribution of 20th Century Fox’s feature film and television programming to all worldwide pay television and pay-per-view markets.

Gregory A. Thomas has been tapped prexy and chief operating officer of the Transactional Content Group, a new division at TVN Entertainment. Prior to TVN, Thomas was chief operating officer of Guthy-Renker Television.

Jennifer Burns has been named VP, strategy and planning by Pittard Sullivan. Burns will be responsible for developing strategic direction for clients worldwide, including on- and off- air branding efforts, as well as interactive and convergent media, advertising and promotion strategies.

Formerly Burns was veep, marketing with The Jim Henson Company.

Eddie Melendez has been upped to general sales manager at KVEA-TV. Melendez has served as local sales manager for more than two years. In his new position, Melendez will oversee the local retail, regional and national sales teams.

Rob Wyatt, has been tapped director, project development, of BRC Imagination Arts. Wyatt will be responsible for evaluating the needs and objectives of company clients and will work to assemble individual teams best suited to help clients realize their dreams.

Prior to joining BRC, Wyatt worked as an art director with themed entertainment industry companies, including The Walt Disney Company, Dick Clark Productions, Spectra Entertainment and Knott’s Berry Farm.

Adam Fratto has been tapped creative exec for Furthur Films. Fratto, was formerly the assistant to Segan at Furthur, in addition to working as a freelance story editor for New Line Cinema, Ixtlan Pictures and New Regency Pictures.

Warner Home Video has upped Steven Nickerson to veep, DVD worldwide marketing, where he will be responsible for increasing the DVD market. Nickerson was previously an exec with Toshiba American Consumer Products.

Former White House staffer Brenda Anders has been tapped director, public affairs for Lifetime Television. She will help develop and execute the Network’s public affairs initiatives.

Before joining Lifetime, Anders was director of communications, Children’s Scholarship Fund.

Cecil will continue to work closely with the Fox Kids affiliates to generate revenue at the local level, maximize rating performance and implement promotional opportunities. Cecil formerly served as sales planner at Turner Broadcasting.

Jane Rimer has been upped to senior veep, sales and development, North America at Pearson Television International. Rimer’s primary responsibility will be to strengthen PTI production and sales domestically and forge new business relationships with producers and broadcasters in the U.S. and Canada.

Jonathan Olson has been upped to VP, head of New York business affairs for the William Morris Agency. Olson will report to Alan Kannof, WMA’s New York chief operating officer and WMA Board Member.

In his new post, Olson will continue to negotiate contracts for actors in the film, television and theater departments, as well as head the New York business affairs department. Additionally, Olson will negotiate agency contracts with William Morris clients.

Olson, who began his career at WMA in 1986, previously worked in the entertainment department of Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison.

Innovation TK, the U.K.-based telecine manufacturing company, has tapped Sam Alexander its newest member of the ITK-East Coast sales and engineering team.

In his new post, Alexander will be responsible for the development of ITK products as well as sales and customer support for high-definition machines.

Most recently, Alexander held positions as Telecine System Test engineer and senior service manager and engineering manager.

Entertainment lawyer Konrad Trope has been named a partner at Rosenfeld, Meyer & Susman, where he will work with independent production and distribution companies.

Konrad joins the firm with extensive experience in film financing. He represents screenwriters and producers for film and television, as well as production companies including Big Bear Licensing, Soaring Eagles Prods., Titan Films, Vision of Love Prods. and AbbyCo Prods.
