ESPN mag taps Rooney as sr. veep

Exec responsible for editorial, circulation, marketing, advertising

NEW YORK — Michael Rooney, publisher of ESPN the Magazine, has been named the mag’s senior VP and general manager. He replaces John Skipper, who recently was promoted to general manager of ESPN Internet Group.

In his new position, Rooney will be responsible for all editorial, circulation, marketing and advertising aspects of the sports-themed, young-male targeted title, of which he’s been publisher since its inception in 1998.

Among titles published by Rooney prior to his joining ESPN the Magazine are Field & Stream, Outdoor Life, Discover and Men’s Health.
