Endemol, World in reality venture

Dutch partners plan to launch Webcasts in 'Big Brother' format

AMSTERDAM — European production outfit Endemol Entertainment and Internet provider World Online Intl. have agreed to cooperate in jointly developing and exploiting TV reality formats online.

The two Dutch companies have already jointly launched the Webcast version of Endemol’s fly-on-the-wall docu-soap “Big Brother” in the Netherlands and Germany.

They plan to roll out Webcasts for similar programs in all countries where both operate, including Holland, Belgium, France, Germany, the U.K. Spain, Italy and South Africa.

Endemol chairman John de Mol said the new partnership to produce the TV reality formats would “increase the growth potential of Endemol.com,” the company’s Internet division, and allow Endemol to “take full advantage of World Online’s rapidly developing broadband services.”

World Online is set to launch on the Amsterdam stock exchange on March 17 in one of the largest share issues ever launched by an Internet company. The float will be used to expand World Online’s foothold in Europe.
