LONDON — Dutch producer Endemol, which originated the “Big Brother” format, is poised to acquire the 50% it does not already own in U.K. joint venture GMG Endemol.
Guardian Media Group has agreed to sell its stake to Endemol, which is owned by Spain’s Telefonica, according to British press reports. Pricetag for the 50% stake is expected to be around $45 million.
Neither GMG nor Endemol would confirm or deny the impending deal.
GMG Endemol, spearheaded by creative director Peter Bazalgette, has spurred the vogue for lifestyle entertainment on British TV with popular shows such as “Changing Rooms” (home decorating), “Ground Force” (gardening) and “Ready Steady Cook” (cooking).
Endemol is enjoying success with the British version of “Big Brother” on Channel 4.
