Emusic.com posts loss, stocks suffer

Revenue-boosting plan will lighten MP3 users' wallets

EMusic.com reported a net loss of $13.6 million during the second quarter compared to a loss of $2.7 million for the same time period a year ago. Total revenues were $3.8 million, compared to $51,000 for the second quarter 1999. Although the results beat analysts’ expectations, the stock price still suffered in trading Friday, closing down more than 13% to $2.25. EMusic last week announced a plan to boost revenues by starting a $10 a month subscription service for Netizens who want to download MP3s from the site.
