Doubleday/Broadway knocks out Norton

Publisher nabs Palahniuk's 'Choke'

“Fight Club” author Chuck Palahniuk has delivered an untimely blow to his long-standing publisher, W.W. Norton. North American rights to his next novel, “Choke,” just sold to Doubleday/Broadway for a six-figure advance.

The book “will do for sex addiction what ‘Fight Club’ did for violence,” said Palahniuk’s agent, Edward Hibbert of Donadio & Olson.

The book has not yet been shopped to studios, though Fox 2000, which made “Fight Club,” holds an option on Palahniuk’s earlier novel, “Survivor.”

Palahniuk’s editor, Gerry Howard, came to Doubleday/Broadway from Norton in 1998.
