Two years after Barbara Dixon came to Hollywood from Washington, leaving a post as vice president of the Motion Picture Assn. of America to become senior veep of publicity at the Columbia TriStar Motion Picture Group, she is ankling the studio to pursue other interests.
At Sony, Dixon coordinated communications strategies and handled public relations for senior management. Dixon’s political background is substantial. She has worked as deputy press secretary to vice presidential candidate Geraldine Ferraro, as a legislative assistant to Indiana Sen. Birch Bayh and as a director of media relations for the National Transportation Safety Board. An announcement of her future plans is expected in the near future.
Pending a search for Dixon’s replacement, her responsibilities at Sony will be assumed by longtime executive veep Ed Russell, who, like Dixon, reports to president of worldwide marketing Bob Levin.
