Russell Gillam, head of Disney’s e-commerce unit, has ankled the Mouse House to become CEO of online marketer MixMe Networks.
MixMe has proprietary audio and video technology that allows companies to personalize e-mail for marketing purposes by providing demographic information. The company uses the technology for consumers who want to send personalized electronic greeting cards.
Based in West Hills, the company was launched in January.
“We’re changing our focus,” Gillam said. “Personalization of audio and video e-mail messages is such a powerful tool in the hands of direct marketers. It’s something that people in every industry are going to find compelling. Imagine how cool it would be for your favorite musician to send you an e-mail in his own voice inviting you to his next concert or to buy his next CD.”
At Disney, Gillam launched the Disney Store online and was general manager and senior vice president of commerce for Disney Direct, the company’s Internet division.
“Gillam’s vision for MixMe is critical to taking our breakthrough Internet technology and initial product offerings to core consumer and business-to-business audiences,” said Boaz Dekel, founder and executive vice president of MixMe.
“His grasp of all aspects of management, technology, commerce and retail issues associated with Internet business makes him the ideal choice to guide our next phase of growth and the evolution and application of our technology.”
