One week after Advance Communications fired the Details magazine staff and shuffled the long-unprofitable monthly from the Conde Nast stable to Fairchild Publications, it has named 28-year-old Daniel Peres the new editor.
Details will relaunch in October. Meanwhile, Fairchild CEO and editorial director Patrick McCarthy is scrambling to restaff the monthly, which will focus on fashion and lifestyles for readers ranging from their mid-20s to mid-30s.
‘Interested in H’w’d’
“He’s our demographic,” McCarthy said of Peres. McCarthy declined to elaborate on the style or coming attractions of the new Details, except to say, “We’re interested in Hollywood.”
Peres, who was previously European editor of W, faces the task of turning around a publication that was hemorrhaging roughly $5 million annually. Details’ last editor, Mark Golin, has said he wasn’t granted enough time to accomplish the feat.
But McCarthy told Daily Variety that Peres will be given the leeway to “launch a new magazine, with all that that implies — enough money to staff it up, and certainly enough for circulation promotion.”
