World Brief

TV tycoon and political power broker Boris Berezovsky has announced candidates for the advisory council that will take over management control of his 49% private stake in Russia’s Channel 1 ORT (Russian Public Television) upon his invitation.

Move follows his announcement earlier in the week that he would resist Kremlin pressure to hand the stake over to the government.

Among 15 candidates who have already accepted his proposal are Sergei Dorenko, vice chairman of ORT and a controversial news commentator, and former ORT chairman Igor Shabdurasulov.
