Cahners, parent company of Daily Variety and Variety, has added LA411 Publishing Co. to its family of business-focused publications.
LA411 provides directories, online services and e-commerce tools to the film and TV biz.
Its Los Angeles-based guide lists 13,000 production companies and staffers, and its sister directory NY411 serves up similar info for the Gotham market. Post-production and special effects workers are repped by LA411’s 411 Digital guide.
On the online side, the publisher sets up Internet auctions of studios’ equipment and props, and also posts Web-based job listings.
“The acquisition of LA411, which is the eighth acquisition by Cahners in less than a year, will give our readers ‘need to know’ information in the film and TV production areas,” said Marc Teren, Cahners CEO.
He predicted Cahners will continue its expansion drive, snapping up existing media properties, forging corporate alliances and launching new initiatives in the near future. Cahners is a unit of Dutch-Anglo media conglom Reed Elsevier.
LA411 will be housed under the Variety Group, which includes Variety, Daily Variety and Variety.com.
LA411 topper Giles Goodhead will stay on as supervisor of the company’s daily operations.
