Vox pays big bucks for ‘Titanic’ b’cast

Murdoch weblet sinks $7.8 mil into TV rights

BERLIN — Rupert Murdoch’s Vox weblet has dished out DM 15 million ($7.8 million) for TV rights to “Titanic.”

While Vox didn’t confirmed the price, it did announce that it will be airing the film next spring. The film is part of Fox’s output deal with Vox.

A spokesperson for Vox said the weblet will show the pic only once, however, adding that further broadcast rights were likely sold to rival webs.

Pic was seen in Germany by 18 million viewers and made $132 million, making it the No. 1 film at the German box office last year. Vox acquired the movie as part of a five-pic package deal with Fox.

Murdoch controls 49.9% of Vox, while Luxembourg-based media group CLT-Ufa and France’s Canal plus each own 24.9% of the station.
