Lou Viola has been recruited to produce PS NBC, the net’s new showcase for upstart talent bowing Jan. 6 in New York.
Hailing from HBO’s U.S. Comedy Arts Festival, where he worked as producer of fest talent, Viola will now encourage Gotham-based performers to frequent PS NBC as a way to develop new material. Viola will also bring fresh scribes and thesps from around the world into the showcase.
He will report to NBC Entertainment exec VP of casting Marc Hirschfeld.
“Lou’s long-standing relationships with writers and performers, and his outstanding work for the U.S. Comedy Arts Festival (for which he’ll now serve as an adviser) made him the perfect choice to produce PS NBC,” said Hirschfeld.
As a U.S. Comedy Arts producer since the fest’s inception, Viola oversaw its worldwide talent searches and its theater programming. He also forged relationships with international TV partners and supervised scheduling and ticketing operations.
Prior to joining the fest in 1994, Viola spent 13 years at the Agency for the Performing Arts. He was named VP of the comedy division in 1989.
