TV Land to power new cabler with ‘Electric Company’ run

One-night stunt to promote Noggin network

PBS’ “The Electric Company” will return to national TV for the first time in 20 years when cabler TV Land runs the kids series on April 26 in primetime. The one-night stunt is designed to promote TV Land’s new sister network, the educational kids web Noggin, which is a joint venture between MTV Networks and Children’s Television Workshop.

The 38 million-subscriber TV Land will run “The Electric Company,” produced from 1971-76 by CTW, from 8-10 p.m. (ET)/5-7 p.m. (PT) April 26.

Brooks to guest star

The two-hour “Electric Company” block will feature guest stars such as Mel Brooks, Bill Cosby, Morgan Freeman, Rita Moreno and Joan Rivers.

Noggin launched on Feb. 2 has only minimal distribution.

The new channel is sponsoring a contest in which viewers who submit the correct lyrics to “The Electric Company” theme song will have a chance to get his or her electric bills paid for 2000.
