Sony Pictures Entertainment has acquired the spec “Standing on the Moon” from commercial casting agents-turned-first-time scribes Hal Masonberg and Teal Minton.
Drama, acquired for low six- against high-six figures, is in the vein of “The Fisher King,” in that it centers on a committed genius. In this case, protag is the anonymous writer of a bestseller. A female investigative reporter discovers the book was penned by a man who’s been institutionalized since childhood. The two go on a journey together and develop a relationship, forcing the reporter to confront conflicting priorities.
Chris Lee Prods. is producing “Moon,” which was brought in by senior VP Greg Frankovich. No helmer is attached.
Columbia exec VP of production Amy Baer will supervise the project. Duo is managed by Chris Emerson at Jumprope Prods. and repped by attorney Karl Austen at Armstrong, Hirsch.
