King World Prods.’ syndie yakker “The Martin Short Show” has landed on WCBS New York, filling the last major hole in its station lineup in preparation for its fall bow.
Deal with WCBS had been expected (Daily Variety, April 15) in the wake of CBS’ pending buyout of the indie syndie distrib. King World chairman Roger King gamely acknowledged that Gotham was the toughest nut to crack in the sales campaign. “I had to sell King World just to clear New York,” he quipped.
But with Gotham in the bag, the hourlong talk-variety strip is now sold in all of the top 10 TV markets, while its total national clearance to date covers 77% of U.S. TV households.
