“Touched by An Angel” executive producer Martha Williamson has been feted with the California Governor’s Award of Excellence, honoring her employment of actors with disabilities and recognizing her accurate depiction of those characters.
Williamson, also the creator and exec producer of the recent CBS series “Promised Land,” will pick up her honor at the 17th annual Media Access Disability Awareness Awards Oct. 24 at the Beverly Hilton.
“Martha Williamson’s sensitive portrayal of the disability experience has raised nationwide awareness of what it means to have a disability,” said Loreen Arbus, awards co-chair and exec producer of “Forgive and Forget.”
“But there is still a lot of work to do,” Arbus warned. “That’s why we honor those writers, producers and directors who break down attitudinal barriers.”
Past kudos have gone to Steven W. Hawking, Marlee Matlin, Garry Marshall, Itzhak Perlman and Henry Winkler.
Disability Awareness chairs also include Sci-Fi Channel VP of original programming Fern Field and “Pensacola” exec producer David Balkan.
