“NBC Nightly News With Tom Brokaw” is on track to score its third consecutive yearlong Nielsen win over its competitors.
With a week still left to be figured in, “NBC Nightly News” is averaging a 7.8 rating/16 share and 10.25 million total viewers for the year, according to Nielsen data through last week. ABC’s “World News Tonight With Peter Jennings” (7.6/16 and 10.18 million viewers) remains in second place, with the “CBS Evening News With Dan Rather” (6.7/14 and 8.86 million viewers) coming in a distant third.
Meanwhile, with an average of 9.03 million viewers, the Eye’s flagship newscast took a hit during the fourth quarter, bleeding 9% of its aud year to year, while top-rated “NBC Nightly News” showed a 3% gain with 10.85 million viewers and ABC’s “World News Tonight” slipped just 1% to 10.40 million viewers, according to just-released Nielsen data.
“CBS Evening News” also took a hit in the key news demo of adults 25-54. Results for the quarter show “Nightly” finishing first with 4.07 million viewers in the advertiser-coveted demo, with “World News” coming in second with 3.67 million, and “Evening News” trailing behind with 3.08 million.
