New Line TV offers ‘Monster Smasher’

Syndie series to be unveiled at NATPE

New Line TV will be expanding its ventures on the small screen with the unveiling of a trio of syndicated programs for sale at January’s NATPE confab.

Following the moderate success of action hour “Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Lost World,” the distribber will again tap the genre with the tentatively titled “Matthew Blackheart: Monster Smasher,” exec produced by Richard Donner.

The series will follow the adventures of a monster-fighting man cryogenically frozen during WWII who is unfrozen to again take on the morphing creatures. Offered on a barter basis, the series is an Action Adventure Network presentation of a Telescene Film Group production.

“This is a concept made for syndication,” said David Spiegelman, exec veep of New Line TV. “The storylines, combined with impressive special effects and a name brand like Richard Donner, will certainly appeal to stations that are looking for an action-packed hour filled with over-the-top humor.”

Additionally, the distribber will bring relationship strip “First Date” to the table, pitting contestants and parents against three potential dates. The series will be hosted by Jeff Wadlow and produced by “Love Connection’s” David Greenfield.
