Williams in talks to develop animated series

Weeks after signing a two-year overall deal with New Line to produce and direct feature films, musicvid helmer Hype Williams is in serious negotiations with MTV to develop an animated series for the cabler.

The still-unnamed toon is being described as a behind-the-scenes look at the world of music and celebrities.

Williams is best known for his work in hip-hop and R&B. He has lensed videos by Puff Daddy, Notorious B.I.G., Will Smith and Mariah Carey, among others.

Williams directed the 1998 feature, “Belly,” released by Artisan Entertainment; he is currently developing the apocalyptic adventure “Mothership.”

Williams’ deal is being negotiated by his manager Spencer Baumgarten at 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney Nina Shaw at Shaw, Blye & Moonves.
