Mifed sees more Asian buyers

Americans still close to half of festgoers

MILAN — The organizers of Mifed announced Monday that the 66th edition of the Milanese mart was, from their perspective, a great success, with a sharp increase of Asian buyers.

Feedback was also positive for the org’s innovations this year, including a three-day program of advance previews that ran in direct competition with the more established pre-Mifed London Screenings.

“The number of participants, from 72 countries, increased by 3% to 3,930 and so did the number of buyers (1,170, up 5%). Asian buyers were back with a 100% increase as regards Hong Kong, 80% for Singapore and 30% for Japan,” Mifed said in a press release.

American exhibs repped 45% of the total.

“Mifed’s results confirm we are going the right way. We are strongly determined to propose once again during the next Mifed an improved edition of the Milan Selected Screenings,” said Fiera Milano commissioner Flavio Cattaneo.
