MediaOne Group on Tuesday said that its broadband unit has expanded its existing affiliation agreement with Encore Media Group to include Encore’s Thematic Multiplex movie channels on MediaOne’s upcoming digital rollouts.
The nation’s third-largest cable operator with nearly 5 million subscribers, MediaOne will launch Encore’s flagship film channel and six additional themed channels (WAM! America’s Kidz Network, as well as webs showcasing Westerns, love stories, mysteries, action pics and true stories) on its digital services in the coming months.
The themed channels will offer customers 500 commercial-free movie choices a month for less than $10.
Encore’s multiplex brand is the cornerstone of EMG’s “New Video Store at Home” strategy.
The expanded agreement also includes the launch of Starz!, Encore and selected multiplex services like BET Movies/Starz!3 in MediaOne’s core premium packages to customers.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Shares of MediaOne rose $2.50 on the news, to close at $54.75, a gain of nearly 5%.
