Mandela doc vies for TV fest award

Sweden Television 4 helped to coin pic

JOHANNESBURG — South African television newsmen Rapitse Montsho and Sam Msibi have pooled their material to come up with a one-hour documentary, “Nelson Mandela — Privately”, which shows glimpses of the former South African president never broadcast before.

It has been nominated as a finalist in the New York Festival Television and Promotion Awards on January 21.

Msibi used his own money to start the project. When Msibi’s money ran out, he joined up with Montsho and they soought sponsorship, eventually teaming up with Sweden Television 4 to complete the $116,000 project.
